Varied Triller

Scientific Name:

Lalage leucomela rufiventris

Love these birds.

There's a resident pair in our garden which we see and hear regularly throughout the day.

The top photo is a juvenile about to munch a native cherry. The male (middle photo) is black-backed with a faintly barred white breast while the females (bottom photo) and juveniles are more grey-brown with a buff-coloured breast. The juvenile looks quite similar to a Cicadabird but can be identified by white bars on the wings.
