Definitely a hot favourite. These large, shy birds are most often spotted skulking on the ground or running for cover. They appear each year when it's time to breed and their distinctive courtship call is a welcome addition to the local soundscape. Last year, we encountered a successful breeding pair with a young juvenile. This year we have two males courting a female so perhaps we'll see coucal chicks around again very soon! The photo shows non-breeding plumage.
